Since most manufacturers of Android smartphones, especially the top manufacturers, update their outfits every year and at different times throughout the year, writing an updated comparison of top models is a bit of an act of deception.
As I write this, for example, Samsung is starting to ship the Galaxy S10 and S10 +, two of its top (or side) phones for release on March 8, 2019, which means it will be available little money posts of this article.
In addition, operating system pricing and updates are in a constant state of flux throughout the year, making zero in on how much each phone sells and what operating system comes with the motion targets. I need to get something, right?
So even on the playing field, for pricing information, I have chosen to use the current Amazon pricing as I write for each individual model. It will be a little higher or lower wherever you buy your phone, and carriers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.) offer constantly changing specials when you sign up for service.
For the operating system (OS) installed on each device, to date, Android 9 (or Pie) is available for most models, so the listed OS is the highest version available again, at the time I write for each device-specific.
Since the first part of the next version of Android will not happen until August, and then only on Google Pixel devices initially, those devices that are running Android 9 will now do so for a while. Yes, there will be incremental updates, but for the most part, the OS version is consistent - now.
Why Android?
There are several reasons why Android is the predominant smartphone system, among them that if you are not ready to opt for an older model, all Apple iPhones are high-end and expensive.
There are some Androids under $ 400 available; I have included a couple in this review and some in the $ 500 range. All the latest iPhones, as beautiful as they are, are pushing or exceeding $ 1,000.
Most importantly, Android is a more versatile OS with a wider range of features and personalization options. For example, most androids support storage media via microSD cards, these days, up to 512 GB or more, while with the iPhone you are stuck with everything that comes in the phone.
If you recharge your storage memory, you will need to delete items or reuse them on devices and accessories. Yes, you can store more data in the cloud, but this is not convenient enough to have everything on your phone.
From the point of view of technology and developers, Android is a more open operating system, which means that users, application developers, and phone manufacturers have more control at the OS level. This allows for much more freedom, allowing you, the developers, and makers of the phone to be more creative.
Apple iOS, on the other hand, is a closed system. Apple controls almost everything, which, historically, from the first Mac to the iPhone X, always has. While this is more conducive to quality control than Google's approach, it is also restrictive.

Today's phones are as powerful as some desktop computers, and the displays on some of the high-end flags are incredibly wonderful. Today's mobile devices come with great compliments of storage and RAM, as much as 1TB and 12 GB respectively, and they are incredibly fast.
Many people, especially the younger generations, only use their phones as their only computer and entertainment devices. If all you need is to make calls and send texts, however, you do not need all that processing power and screens that die.
